pen-to-squareHard Rules and Claims

Neon Blue uses a policy-based claims system. This means you define a set of rules (your hard rules), and every piece of generated content is evaluated against them. If any hard rule is violated, the system automatically flags the content as non-compliant, requiring you to either edit it or manually approve it before it can move to the next stage.

These rules are fully customizable. If you see language that should never appear again - whether for brand integrity, compliance requirements, partnership constraints, or internal guidelines - you can simply add it as a hard rule. The system will then screen all content against these rules during evaluation.

Running Evaluation.

Once your variant is drafted, the Neon Blue evaluator will check every creative variant against each individual hard rule. Each hard rule will then receive a PASS or FAIL label.

How To Write Hard Rules

Hard rules must be written so that they can receive a clear PASS/FAlL outcome. To achieve this:

  • Ensure that the entire Claim or Hard Rule is entirely in the 'Rule' field. Please note that the 'Name' of the hard rule is not used in evaluation.

  • Each rule must be self-contained – it should not rely on any external context or references.

  • The rule should read as a complete, declarative instruction.

  • Imagine the evaluator reading only the rule and the creative, with no other context. If the evaluator can confidently label it “pass” or “fail,” the rule is written correctly.

  • Use directive phrasing such as “always…,” “never…,” “make sure to…,” etc.

You can edit your hard rules at any time and rerun the evaluation.

Examples of Good vs. Bad Hard Rules

  • Bad Example: “Never use the word ‘perfect’ when referencing this.” This is invalid because it references an external context (“this”), making it unclear and non-standalone.

  • Good Example: “When comparing our product to others, never mention the name of a competitor. Instead, refer to them as ‘others.’” This is valid because it is self-contained, explicit, and produces an unambiguous pass/fail result.

Multiple Policies

Different campaigns, product lines, or lifecycle flows may require different rules. Neon Blue supports multiple policies, allowing you to create and select policy sets depending on the evaluation context.

To do so, navigate to the Hard Rules section of the Brand Kit and click 'Add Group'. This creates a new Hard Rules group. You can now
